Superb audio!

Beautifully sung!

Years ago, WFMT in Chicago did a retrospective series on the CSO, and on one of their shows they played this Stock/CSO Schubert 9th; not sure how but somehow I managed to do an off-air cassette transcription of the performance, which I always found to be a very good one. The cassette tape is long since lost, so it's wonderful to know it's back and available in this release in far superior sound.

Sincerly can't imaging another Norma than her one.....always unsurpassed.....even if at that year, on this recording session , her voice quite worn....thanks to Pristine equipe for this big work, too.

Such an improvement to the original recording; it is now fresher and clearer. Callas is sublime.

Those descending chromatic scales always leave me awestruck. Every note exactly in place, no slurring or covering over. She was a fantastic technician as well as a great musician.

Should Pristine have filtered out all the sounds of bombs exploding?

I can't say that understand most if any of the words she is singing, but who cares: what a glorious voice. And what a formidable technique that allowed her to sound this secure this late in her career.

If I would have been asked, which historical recordings I would love to hear in all of their glory, this Sinfonia Domestica would have belonged to my short list. As a performance it is nothing short of miraculous; those thunderous sonorities resembling a tank battalion have never sounded this clear; in their previous incarnations it all became a mush.

The presence of the voice, and also the orchestra, in this remastering is breathtaking. This is better than could be imagined...

I was 16 when Cliburn won the competition and stunned the world. This movement was played beautifully and I will buy this CD. He was a wonderful pianist, especially in the Russian works.

No Gigli-like sobs, no lachrymosity, just straight-out, great singing. The voice SWELLS (without strain) when it should, and expresses the pathos w/o artifice. He's still the best!

I have the same performance on a Walhall remastered recording (Met., 29/03/1952), beautifully sung in English 5*. "Sherstin's" voice and delivery remind me very much of Jessye Norman on an Orfeo recording of the same opera by Gluck, a sadly neglected composer of some very fine operas.
